ADOPTION
“Until one has loved an animal, a part of one’s soul remains unawakened.” – Anatole France
Think before you adopt. Taking on the care of an animal is a decision not to be taken lightly. Adopting a cat, dog or other type of animal is like having a perpetual toddler. They are not able to care for themselves and look to you for their love, care, emotional support, and all around survival.
Before considering adopting a pet, you may wish to look into the type of pet that is best for your lifestyle. Factors to consider are temperament, how they are around children, their sociability, how much space you have and their energy levels. You should also ask yourself some questions: Do you travel often? Are you able to provide appropriate shelter for your pet? Have you been allergy tested? Are you able to take on the financial responsibility associated with their regular care requirements or emergencies? Are you able to commit time to train your pet? Are you able to provide necessary exercise?
There are a lot of things to consider before bringing a pet into your home. If done responsibly, adoption is a positive life-changing experience for you and especially, your new best friend.
